By 2040, 20% of global cargo transportation is expected to be concentrated on the Europe–Asia route.
Kazakhstan, which connects these two continents, is expected to become a major international aviation hub. In line with the Head of State’s instruction, the task has been set to identify the competitive advantages of each airport in the country and further develop their infrastructure. Currently, six regions hold the status of aviation hubs — the cities of Astana, Almaty, Shymkent, Karaganda, Aktau, and Aktobe.
In several regions, airport terminals and runways are being modernized. Last year, 173,000 tons of cargo were transported through Kazakhstan’s airspace. In the first four months of this year, 50,000 tons of cargo were shipped. The national airline, which is expected to develop multimodal logistics, will begin acquiring aircraft starting this year.
Adlet Kobenov, Head of the Department of Strategic Interaction and Initiatives of JSC “Aviation Administration of Kazakhstan,” stated:
“Of course, compared to other cities, the highest number of flights is concentrated in Almaty and Astana. Plans are in place for their further development. Appropriate measures are предусмотрены for each airport according to its respective level. Air transportation is carried out along the Europe–Asia route, as well as to China, Japan, and Southeast Asian countries.”
