There are 24 certified aerodromes and 5 heliports in Kazakhstan: 17 of them are international and 7 are domestic aerodromes.
Department of aerodromes and ground handling of AAK (hereinafter - the Department) certification and continuous oversight of flight safety by certified operators of aerodromes and heliports in accordance with the approved continuous oversight program.
The Department monitors activity that may pose a threat to flight safety in accordance with article 90 of the Law on the Use of the Airspace of the Republic of Kazakhstan and Aviation Activities.
The Department control over the activities of ground handling of aircraft at airports (aircraft apron service, provision of aviation fuel, provision of special vehicles for aircraft service).
Ground handling is a type of airport activity carried out by an aerodrome operator and (or) an independent ground handling service provider, as well as an airline that independently services for its needs.

AAK oversees the development and implementation by aerodrome operators of wildlife hazard management programs at the aerodromes and adjacent territories.
In order to reduce the birdstrike risks, A Council on problems created by wildlife for civil aircraft flights was established at AAK in 2020.
The main purpose of the Council is to reduce the number of birdstrikes by developing recommendations for the elimination of factors conducive to attracting animals and birds on the territory of airfields of the Republic of Kazakhstan and adjacent territories.
