Seminar on Search and Rescue Support for Flights in Baku

08/10/2024

A seminar on search and rescue support for flights was held in Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan. It was organized by the European and North Atlantic (EUR/NAT) and Asia-Pacific (APAC) regional offices of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).

The event was attended by more than 70 representatives from ICAO, other international organizations, and foreign countries, as well as representatives from EUROCONTROL, COSPAS-SARSAT, and RASARAC. Among the participants were representatives of the Aviation Administration of Kazakhstan, the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Kazaeronavigation RSE, and Kazaviaspas JSC.

The seminar showcased the Global Aeronautical Distress and Safety System (GADSS), including a detailed overview of the Autonomous Distress Tracking (ADT) system and the Location of Aircraft in Distress Repository (LADR). The event also covered the process of transmitting information about the location of aircraft in distress to relevant search and rescue organizations, as mandated by the state of the operator.

LADR is a data storage system developed by ICAO in collaboration with the European Organization for the Safety of Air Navigation (EUROCONTROL). It provides direct access to search and rescue organizations, air traffic control centers, and operators of civil aircraft equipped with modern ELT (DT) emergency beacons. Currently, some aircraft in the Republic of Kazakhstan are already equipped with the latest ELT (DT) emergency beacon systems.

As a result of the seminar, responsible coordinators will be appointed within Kazaeronavigation RSE and among civil aircraft operators whose aircraft are equipped with the ADT system to ensure access to the LADR data repository.
