Representatives of the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Arrive in Kazakhstan for a Review Mission to Open Direct Flights to the United States by Late 2025

26/08/2024

The Civil Aviation Committee of the Ministry of Transport of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Aviation Administration of Kazakhstan, in collaboration with the Embassy of the Republic of Kazakhstan in the United States and the U.S. Embassy in Kazakhstan, continue their systematic efforts to establish direct flights between Kazakhstan and the United States.

As part of this effort, from August 26 to 30, 2024, the FAA is conducting a technical review of the International Aviation Safety Assessment (IASA) to evaluate the activities of the aviation authorities of Kazakhstan in ensuring effective flight safety oversight in the country. The arrival of FAA specialists in Kazakhstan was preceded by close cooperation between the aviation authorities of Kazakhstan, the Embassy of Kazakhstan in the U.S., the U.S. Embassy in Kazakhstan, and the FAA.

During the visit, Vice Minister of Transport of the Republic of Kazakhstan Talgat Lastayev and Director General of the Aviation Administration of Kazakhstan Catalina Radu met with the delegation from the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration.

FAA specialists will carry out a comprehensive analysis of the current state of Kazakhstan's civil aviation system and will provide recommendations for further enhancing flight safety and ensuring compliance with international standards. During the visit, FAA auditors will assess the overall complexity of Kazakhstan’s aviation industry and its safety oversight system. A technical visit to Air Astana is also planned as part of the review.

It should be noted that the delivery of Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft to Kazakhstan is expected in 2025. Upon successful completion of the FAA audit in Kazakhstan and the arrival of long-haul airliners, direct flights between Kazakhstan and the United States will commence.

Kazakhstan’s aviation authorities will continue to actively collaborate with the U.S. FAA to enhance flight safety and to establish direct air services between the two countries.
