Major airfield infrastructure upgrades are continuing at Aktau International Airport as part of a comprehensive modernization program aimed at enhancing operational capacity and flight safety.
The airport is currently undergoing major apron rehabilitation works, which represent the second phase of a large-scale reconstruction project that began in 2024.
During the first phase, reconstruction of the runway and taxiways was completed in July 2025, significantly improving the condition of the airport’s critical airside infrastructure.
The second phase of the project commenced in May 2026 and includes the rehabilitation of the apron as well as upgrades to perimeter infrastructure, while flight operations continue without interruption.
To date, approximately 90% of the apron works have been completed. Construction crews are currently finishing the remaining pavement sections, perimeter fencing, and additional airfield lighting systems. All works are scheduled for completion by the end of the third quarter of 2026.
The project is expected to enhance flight safety, expand and strengthen aircraft parking stands, and enable the airport to accommodate heavy cargo aircraft with higher maximum takeoff weights.
Upon completion of the reconstruction, Aktau Airport will be capable of handling all categories of aircraft, including ICAO Code F aircraft, creating additional opportunities for the development of transit traffic and air cargo operations in the region.
