Open Skies regime extended for five years

06/01/2023

Following the instructions of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan on expanding the geography of flights and increasing the number of international flights, the Civil Aviation Committee of the Ministry of Industry and Infrastructure Development of the Republic of Kazakhstan has extended the "open skies" regime until the end of 2027.

As a result, this regime eliminates all flight restrictions and grants foreign airlines a fifth degree of "air freedom" on routes where Kazakh airlines do not operate.

The "open skies" regime operated in 12 international airports in Kazakhstan, including Astana, Almaty, Taraz, Shymkent, Aktau, Semey, Karaganda, Ust-Kamenogorsk, Pavlodar, Petropavlovsk, Kokshetau, and Turkestan. As a result of joint work with the Akimat of the Aktobe region, this mode has also been introduced at Aktobe International Airport, named after Aliya Moldagulova, for regional development.

This regime helps to attract new foreign carriers, promote airline competition, open international routes, reduce the cost of air tickets, develop tourism and increase transport accessibility to Kazakhstan's cities.
