The Ministry of Transport of the Republic of Kazakhstan is continuously working to expand the geography of international flights and increase the number of frequencies on existing routes.
On September 12, 2025, negotiations were held between the Ministry of Transport of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Transport and Logistics Bureau of Hong Kong on matters related to air services.
The Kazakh delegation was headed by Vice Minister of Transport of Kazakhstan Talgat Lastayev, while the Hong Kong delegation was led by Mr. Kelvin Ma, Assistant Principal Secretary of the Transport and Logistics Bureau of Hong Kong.
As a result of the negotiations, the number of weekly flights for airlines of both countries was increased from 7 to 14, including 7 flights with fifth freedom traffic rights, which will enable Kazakh carriers to use the potential of Hong Kong International Airport and Hong Kong airlines to benefit from the capacities of Kazakhstan’s airports.
During the meeting, a representative of Cathay announced that, with the arrival of new aircraft, the airline has plans to launch direct flights to Kazakhstan.
The expansion of the legal framework and the resumption of air services will further contribute to the development of trade, economic, business, and tourism cooperation between the two countries.
Background:
Cathay is one of the world’s largest passenger and cargo carriers, operating flights to over 100 destinations worldwide. Its fleet comprises more than 170 aircraft, with ongoing efforts to further expand the fleet.
