Aviation Administration of Kazakhstan held a meeting dedicated to ensuring the accessibility of air transport for passengers with special needs. The event was attended by representatives of the AAK, Kazakhstani airlines, airports, and public organizations representing the interests of people with disabilities.
The meeting discussed issues such as training personnel on safe service, correct terminology and ethics, as well as basic communication skills with people with special needs, providing discounts for passengers with disabilities and their accompanying persons, and pre-booking special seats for passengers with special needs on board the aircraft, provided that prior notification is given of the need for transportation.
The relevance of this event is due to the fact that the number of elderly people and people with disabilities in the world today is a significant and constantly growing proportion of the population (1.3 billion people). This trend is due to the increase in the overall population, advances in medicine, and the aging of the population. In this regard, aviation, like other modes of transport, must be prepared to create an air transport system that takes into account the needs of people with disabilities.
At the meeting dedicated to the issues of serving passengers with special needs, special attention was paid to the need for personnel training. Representatives of public organizations of people with disabilities proposed training not only airport and airline employees, but also all employees of government services who interact with passengers, in the necessary communication and service skills for people with disabilities. It was noted that training should be systematic and conducted at the level of mandatory vocational training.
This meeting became a platform for dialogue between representatives of public organizations, airports, and airlines. All participants were able to exchange views and experiences in order to minimize possible problematic situations related to serving passengers with special needs in the future. Issues related to timely informing the airline about the passenger's needs to provide a full range of necessary services, ethics of communication with passengers with special needs, rules for transporting battery-powered wheelchairs, and providing discounts on air tickets were discussed.
Representatives of the Public Association of the Disabled Center "Independent Life" "DOS" provided information about the possibility of training airport and airline personnel on the ethics of serving passengers with special needs. Following the meeting, the company "Dos Ortopedia", which finances the Public Association of the Disabled Center "Independent Life" "DOS", announced its intention to provide Kazakhstani airports with wheelchairs for free use on board aircraft in order to improve the service for passengers with limited mobility.
