A meeting of the Aviation Security Coordination Group of the Central Asian and Caucasus region was held in Samarkand, bringing together representatives of national aviation authorities, as well as aviation industry organizations and operators.
The main focus of the meeting was on preparation for and participation in the ICAO aviation security audit. The delegation of the Republic of Kazakhstan presented its experience in implementing the critical elements of the oversight system, including compliance with ICAO standards and the execution of corrective actions following audit results.
In addition, Kazakhstan demonstrated its national risk assessment system, which enables the determination of the priority and frequency of oversight activities, as well as justifies the need for aircraft searches or inspections depending on the level of threat. The approaches presented were positively evaluated as an effective and practical risk management tool.
The meeting also addressed the implementation of modern screening technologies, including the use of artificial intelligence, the impact of the human factor, corporate quality control in airports, and the security of cargo, mail, and in-flight supplies.
Issues related to personnel training and the development of training systems were also discussed, including modern methods for assessing screening operators and approaches to the mutual recognition of security measures.
During the meeting, the Chair and Deputy Chair of the Coordination Group for 2026 were re-elected, with Georgia and Uzbekistan appointed respectively.
