Kazakhstan will establish a working group to address airport accessibility and improve the quality of services for passengers with disabilities and other special needs, inbusiness.kz reports, citing the Ministry of Transport of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
The working group will include representatives of government agencies, airlines, airports and disability advocacy groups. They will review existing requirements and service practices, identify key challenges and develop proposals to improve the accessibility of airport infrastructure and services.
The needs of passengers requiring additional assistance were discussed at a meeting held at the Aviation Administration of Kazakhstan. Representatives of the airports of Almaty and Astana, airlines and public organizations took part in the meeting.
Particular attention was paid to the transportation of wheelchairs and other mobility aids, including their safe handling and the coordination of efforts among airports, airlines and other parties involved in the process.
Representatives of disability advocacy groups also shared the challenges passengers face when travelling by air. Participants emphasized that any new requirements must take into account the real-life experiences and needs of passengers themselves.
The working group is expected to develop a unified approach to serving passengers with disabilities and other special needs and prepare proposals to improve the existing regulations.
