Representatives of Kazakhstan’s aviation sector visited New York and Washington, D.C., USA, to exchange experience and study advanced approaches to ensuring aviation security in air cargo transportation.

The Kazakh delegation included representatives of the Project Office of the Administration of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Civil Aviation Committee of the Ministry of Transport of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Aviation Administration of Kazakhstan, Nursultan Nazarbayev International Airport, and Almaty International Airport.

The visit was organized with the support of the U.S. Transportation Security Administration (TSA) in partnership with the Export Control and Border Security (EXBS) Program of the U.S. Embassy in Astana. The initiative was developed as part of bilateral cooperation between Kazakhstan and the United States ahead of the launch of direct air connectivity between the two countries.

As part of the program, the Kazakh delegation, together with TSA representatives, studied the U.S. system of aviation security regulation and the practical organization of air cargo operations at John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York and Washington Dulles International Airport.

Special attention was given to aviation security procedures, air cargo screening processes, risk management systems, and compliance with international requirements governing cargo air transportation.

During the visit, Kazakh specialists toured cargo terminals, facilities operated by leading cargo carriers and freight forwarding companies, and security screening units. They examined modern inspection technologies, cargo control equipment, procedures for handling and verifying air cargo, as well as cooperation mechanisms between government authorities, airports, airlines, and cargo terminal operators.

The parties exchanged experience on improving national aviation security systems, implementing modern cargo screening approaches, enhancing interagency coordination, and expanding international cooperation.

The practical knowledge and international best practices gained during the visit will contribute to the further improvement of Kazakhstan’s aviation security framework, particularly in the field of air cargo transportation.

Such initiatives strengthen bilateral cooperation between Kazakhstan and the United States while contributing to higher levels of safety, efficiency, and reliability in international cargo and passenger air transportation.
