From October 20 to 22, 2026, Astana will host ICAO Aviation Security Week, one of the key international events dedicated to aviation security and cybersecurity, with the support of the Ministry of Transport of the Republic of Kazakhstan. For the first time, Kazakhstan will serve as the venue for this global forum, bringing together heads of aviation authorities and representatives of the aviation industry from around the world.

ICAO organizes a limited number of major international events that bring together senior officials, regulators, industry representatives and leading experts. The selection of Astana as the host city for Aviation Security Week reflects the high level of international cooperation between Kazakhstan and ICAO, as well as the country's consistent efforts to strengthen its national aviation security system.

With a 95.7% compliance rate with international aviation security standards, Kazakhstan ranks among the top 20 countries in the world and is currently the regional leader in Central Asia.

Having gained extensive experience in hosting regional events, Kazakhstan is now stepping onto the global stage. This represents a significant milestone both for the country and for the international aviation community.

The ICAO Aviation Security Week, held under the theme “Safe Skies in a Complex World: Enhancing Aviation Security for All,” is expected to bring together ICAO leadership, as well as high-level representatives of foreign governments and international organizations.

Today, civil aviation is operating in a rapidly changing security environment. Alongside traditional threats, new risks are emerging as a result of the development of digital technologies and artificial intelligence, the growing threat of cyberattacks, the proliferation of unmanned aircraft systems, as well as the impact of armed conflicts and geopolitical instability.

Against this backdrop, protecting critical aviation infrastructure, strengthening the industry's resilience to cyber incidents, addressing threats associated with the use of unmanned aircraft systems, improving risk assessment, and ensuring effective information sharing — including in conflict situations — are becoming increasingly important.

During ICAO Aviation Security Week 2026, participants will discuss modern approaches to risk management, the adoption of innovation and new technologies, workforce development, and the strengthening of aviation security systems.    Particular attention will be given to improving information sharing and practical approaches to assessing risks associated with civil aviation operations in conflict situations.

The discussions will take place in the context of the implementation of ICAO's key global initiatives, including the Global Aviation Security Plan (GASeP) and the ICAO Universal Security Audit Programme — Continuous Monitoring Approach (USAP-CMA).

ICAO Aviation Security Week 2026 will also serve as an important milestone in preparing the international aviation community for the Third High-Level Conference on Aviation Security (HLCAS/3), scheduled to take place in 2027. The Astana event will provide an opportunity to discuss current priorities and approaches that will shape the further development of the global aviation security system.
