A meeting of the Coordination Group on Aviation Security for the Central Asian and Caucasus regions was held in Samarkand, bringing together representatives of national aviation authorities, as well as industry organizations and operators.
The discussions focused primarily on preparations for and the conduct of the ICAO aviation security audit. The delegation of the Republic of Kazakhstan presented its experience in implementing the critical elements of the State’s oversight system, including compliance with ICAO Standards and the execution of corrective action plans following audit results.
In addition, Kazakhstan showcased its national risk assessment system, which enables authorities to determine the priority and frequency of oversight activities, as well as to justify the need for aircraft searches or inspections depending on the level of threat. These approaches were positively recognized as effective and practical tools for risk management.
The meeting also addressed the implementation of advanced screening technologies, including the use of artificial intelligence, the impact of human factors, corporate quality control in airports, and the security of cargo, mail, and in-flight supplies.
Participants further discussed personnel training and the development of training systems, including modern methods for assessing screening operators and approaches to the mutual recognition of security measures.
During the meeting, the Chair and Vice-Chair of the Coordination Group for 2026 were re-elected, with Georgia and Uzbekistan assuming these roles, respectively.
