In the morning of November 29, the engineering service of Air Astana successfully completed the software update on 18 aircraft of Air Astana and FlyArystan in accordance with the urgent airworthiness directive issued by EASA.
The software update is planned to be completed by the end of November 29, 2025.
Currently, the Air Astana and FlyArystan group operates 38 Airbus aircraft. Of these, 5 aircraft do not require updates. Three updates will be carried out in Aktau, four in Astana, and six in Almaty. The directive will be implemented on aircraft undergoing scheduled or unscheduled maintenance before the completion of the relevant maintenance.
International airports in Astana and Almaty are currently operating as usual, with flights proceeding as scheduled.
Passengers are advised to check the current status of their flights on the airlines' websites in advance.
For Reference:
The emergency airworthiness directive was issued by the European Union Aviation Security Agency (EASA) on November 28, 2025, and came into effect on November 29, 2025.
The issue with the A320 aircraft affected approximately 6,000 planes worldwide.
The directive was issued after a registered incident involving an Airbus A320, during which the aircraft experienced an unintentional, brief failure of the elevator control, causing the plane to descend with the autopilot engaged.
The directive is mandatory and immediate. From the moment it came into effect, all operators of Airbus A319/A320/A321 aircraft must replace or modify the software of the elevator control units according to Airbus’s instructions before the next flight.
As a result, flights of Airbus aircraft operated by Air Astana and FlyArystan were delayed at their home airports for the mandatory software update to ensure flight security.
