The Ministry of Transport of the Republic of Kazakhstan, in cooperation with the U.S. Embassy in Astana, facilitated the participation of representatives of Kazakhstan’s civil aviation authorities and specialists from Astana and Almaty airports in the International Air Cargo Interdiction Training (IACIT) program held at John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York, USA. The initiative was organized under the framework of the Export Control and Border Security (EXBS) Program.
The IACIT program was conducted by the Anti-Terrorism Contraband Enforcement Team (A-TCET) of U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), with support from the Export Control and Related Border Security (EXBS) Program of the U.S. Embassy.
During the training, participants were introduced to modern approaches to air cargo risk assessment, aircraft and cargo inspection procedures, the use of advanced screening technologies, the operation of canine units, and mechanisms for interagency cooperation.
The program also provided an opportunity for an in-depth exchange of experience in integrating aviation security and customs control procedures, as well as implementing risk-based approaches to enhancing the security of international air cargo operations.
Participation in the program is particularly significant in the context of preparations for the launch of direct air services between Kazakhstan and the United States, as well as the further development of cooperation with American partners in the field of aviation security. The knowledge and experience gained will contribute to the continued enhancement of aviation security measures and the implementation of international best practices within Kazakhstan’s aviation sector.
