Kairbek Uskenbayev, Minister of Industry and Infrastructural Development of Kazakhstan, became acquainted with the activities of the Aviation Administration of Kazakhstan, which is in charge of technical control and supervision of civil aviation safety.
The event was attended by high-level representatives from the Ministry of Industry and Infrastructural Development of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the management team of the Aviation Administration of Kazakhstan. During the event, it was noted that the Aviation Administration of Kazakhstan systematically implements flight safety, security and sustainability objectives by international best practices.
The Chairman of the Board of Directors of AAK, Talgat Lastayev, highlighted that the successful completion of an independent audit of the industry by ICAO auditors and the successful discussion with the EC was one of the year's most meaningful events. Kazakhstan increased its level of safety to 84% (USOAP) and proved the reforms adopted are in full compliance with the International Standards and Recommended Practices (SARPs).
There is a tremendous amount of work, including the transition to the European model of safety regulation, the involvement of highly qualified foreign specialists, the termination of seven airlines that failed to meet safety standards, and close collaboration with the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA). AAK has successfully passed several international audits since its inception, including the ICAO Validation Mission (ICVM), a technical visit from European Commission experts, and a visit from Transportation Security Administration experts (TSA). There are 912 airplanes and 75 ships operating regular passenger flights on Kazakhstan's state register. There are six heliports, 18 international airports, and 25 domestic airports in Kazakhstan. The first country in the CIS to declare full compliance with the Global Runway Surface Format (GRF) specifications was Kazakhstan, which also is the first CIS country to become part of the CORSIA program.
As Air Astana's strategy starts operating direct flights between Kazakhstan and the United States, Catalin Radu pointed out that efforts are being made to boost the technical capability of AAK in front of the forthcoming FAA International Aviation Safety Assessment (IASA).
Following the event, the Minister stated several tasks for the industry's development and directed the Aviation Administration Kazakhstan with the Civil Aviation Committee to maintain strict control over the issue of flight safety and emphasised that «The Kazakhstani aviation authorities have done a good job of meeting the high level of international standards. Close cooperation with the European Commission Flight Safety Committee has been established and maintained. Nonetheless, there is a significant amount of work to be done as President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev prioritises flight safety and creating comfortable living conditions for the population. In addition, the country's President directed that work be continued expanding the geography of flights and increasing the number of flights».
