The Aviation Administration of Kazakhstan (AAK) held a seminar dedicated to updating the State Action Plan (SAP) of the Republic of Kazakhstan for reducing carbon dioxide emissions in international aviation.
The event was organized in cooperation with the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) and the Europe and North Atlantic Regional Office of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO EURNAT), with support from the Astana International Financial Centre (AIFC) and the participation of the Civil Aviation Committee of the Ministry of Transport of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
The event, attended by representatives of government bodies, national companies, airlines, and airports, was organized jointly with the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) and the ICAO EUR/NAT Regional Office, with the support of the Astana International Financial Centre (AIFC) and the participation of the Civil Aviation Committee of the Ministry of Transport of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
The purpose of the seminar is to develop a platform for cooperation between government bodies, airlines, airports, and other stakeholders in the country’s aviation sector to discuss and monitor measures aimed at reducing CO₂ emissions and improving the energy efficiency of Kazakhstan’s aviation transport system.
ICAO and EASA experts presented best international practices for developing State Action Plans (SAP), methods for quantitative assessment of CO₂ emissions, and approaches to selecting effective mitigation measures. Special attention was given to the use of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF), the implementation of CORSIA mechanisms, as well as technological and operational solutions aimed at improving flight efficiency and reducing the environmental impact of international civil aviation.
Participants also discussed “green airports”, reducing the carbon footprint of aviation infrastructure, and developing a roadmap for the introduction of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) in Kazakhstan. In conclusion, the seminar participants aligned their joint actions on updating the State Action Plan of the Republic of Kazakhstan (SAP v2), clarified the distribution of roles, and agreed on the timelines for implementing the planned activities.
The organization of this seminar represents an important step for Kazakhstan toward decarbonizing its aviation sector and fulfilling its international commitments under the Paris Agreement and ICAO’s carbon-neutrality initiatives.
