From Infrastructure to Autonomous Vehicles: Kazakhstan Addresses the Global Transport Session in Geneva

The annual session of the Inland Transport Committee of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) is taking place in Geneva.

The Kazakh delegation, led by Vice Minister of Transport Talgat Lastayev, together with the Permanent Mission of the Republic of Kazakhstan to the United Nations in Geneva, took part in the 88th session of the UNECE Inland Transport Committee.

The event brought together the leadership of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe, as well as ministers and deputy ministers of transport and representatives of industry organizations from around the world.

Within the ministerial segment “Promoting Innovation for the Future of Domestic Transport,” Vice Minister Talgat Lastaev delivered a speech. He highlighted Kazakhstan’s strategic role in ensuring the resilience of global supply chains and presented the key achievements in the development of transport infrastructure. Special emphasis was placed on digital transformation and the implementation of autonomous transport.

In addition, on the sidelines of the UN event, the Vice Minister held a meeting with Dmitry Maryasin, Deputy Executive Secretary of the UN Economic Commission for Europe. They discussed current issues concerning the Ministry’s cooperation with the UN.

Meetings were also held with representatives of the International Road Transport Union (IRU), TRACECA, as well as with one of the world’s largest logistics companies, Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC), and MSC Air Cargo.

Overall, following the session, Forum participants noted a strong commitment to expanding partnerships between the regions of Central Asia, the Middle East, Europe, and North America, as well as to strengthening the role of the the Committee on Inland Transport of the UN Economic Commission for Europe as a unique global platform for cooperation in the field of domestic transport.
