European Union project on aviation safety held steering committee meeting in Brussels

Brussels. On 26 November the Kazakhstan civil aviation authorities representatives attended the 4th Steering Committee Meeting of the Eastern Partnership and Central Asian countries assistance and support project in civil aviation.

The project which is implemented by the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) and the European Civil Aviation Conference (ECAC) was represented by Luc Tytgat, EASA Strategy and Safety Management Director and his team. The representatives of aviation authorities of Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Republic of Moldova, Tajikistan, Ukraine and Uzbekistan attended the meeting. Thanks to this program of the country, the participants carried out many projects, such as aviation inspectors training, which gave a positive result for passing an ICAO audit.

In addition, the representatives of EASA collaborate organisations Nahmadov Elkhan Deputy Director from the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) European and North Atlantic Office and Reverdy Patricia Acting Executive Secretary from the ECAC were present at the meeting.

The Steering Committee has made a progress within four work packages addressing the following issues: EU legislation (for Eastern Partnership countries); Administration (Oversight system); Safety Management Systems, and Competence development. A working paper covering activities carried out was presented and a work programme for the coming period was agreed. Although this meeting was planned to be final, the program is extended until September 2020 by the decision of the steering committee.

EU Delegation's Head of Cooperation, Luc Tytgat made welcoming remarks. In his remarks Mr Luc Tytgat stressed the importance of EASA in establishing and enforcing common aviation safety standards in the EU and he was delighted to announce that a project which was previously implemented within the EU Eastern Partnership is now available for cooperation with other countries in Central Asia.
