Construction of the largest aircraft maintenance center in Central Asia has begun in Shymkent.

28/02/2026

A ceremonial foundation capsule laying was held in Shymkent for a new aviation technical hangar complex for maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO), being developed by SCAT Airlines in partnership with Boeing.

The initiative gained international momentum following the Head of State’s working visit to the USA. During high-level meetings with Boeing leadership, both parties discussed expanding strategic cooperation, specifically focusing on the establishment of this major MRO hub in Shymkent.

The ceremony was attended by the Akim of Shymkent, Gabit Syzdykbekov; Vice-Minister of Transport, Talgat Lastayev; and Boeing’s Vice President of Commercial Sales and Marketing, Paul Righi.

The new complex is set to become the largest aircraft MRO facility in Central Asia and stands as one of the most significant infrastructure projects in Kazakhstan’s aviation sector.

The center will offer a full production cycle with a focus on Boeing aircraft, including the 737 (Classic/NG/MAX) and 757/767 families, as well as future programs for the wide-body Boeing 777.

In conjunction with this project, plans are underway to procure additional Boeing aircraft for the national fleet.

The complex will span 10 hectares, with over 45,000 m² of dedicated engineering and technical infrastructure. This includes an aircraft apron (parking/maneuvering area) exceeding 6 hectares.

The site will house at least 15 high-tech facilities designed for comprehensive aircraft servicing.

The realization of this project will establish a world-class service hub in Kazakhstan. By attracting foreign airlines for maintenance and repair services, the center aims to enhance national industry expertise and create new high-skilled employment opportunities.
