In Astana held a meeting on the service of passengers with disabilities in air transport under the chairmanship of Deputy of the Mazhilis of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Commissioner for the Rights of Socially Vulnerable Groups under the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Kenzhegul Seitzhan together with the Chairman of the Civil Aviation Committee of the Ministry of Transport of the Republic of Kazakhstan Saltanat Tompieva.
The meeting was attended by representatives of the Aviation Administration of Kazakhstan, the International Civil Aviation Association (IATA), as well as Kazakhstani and foreign airlines.
Kenzhegul Seitzhan voiced the difficulties faced by passengers in using air transport. In turn, Saltanat Tomieva reported on the ongoing work to improve conditions for passengers with disabilities in the process of the transportation by airlines. Currently working on amendments to existing legislation in the part of provision of benefits for the purchase of air tickets for people with disabilities.
Representatives of the Aviation Administration of Kazakhstan noted that regular inspections are carried out on an ongoing basis of civil aviation entities to comply with legislative requirements, including facilities for disabled passengers. Appropriate measures are taken if violations are found.
IATA Regional Manager for Central Asia Rizwan Siddiqui reported that creating favorable conditions for passengers with disabilities is one of the Association's priority areas. IATA regularly holds meetings with its members (more than 360 airlines worldwide) and develops standards that are sent to airlines for implementation.
Airlines also presented reports on their work to ensure conditions for passengers with disabilities. Following the meeting, the head of the Civil Aviation Committee noted that issues raised will be responded to by the air companies.
