As part of the implementation of the President's instructions on the development of regional transport hubs and the improvement of air traffic security, the Government has allocated 945 million tenge from the Special State Fund for the reconstruction of Balkhash city airport.
The reconstruction of the facility will improve the quality of passenger service and bring the main parameters of the air harbor in line with international standards. Its capacity will increase by more than 30%.
Currently, a significant amount of work has already been completed. This includes installing the roofing of the airport’s main building and annexes, mounting windows, sewer systems, and the main water supply network. A sewage pumping station, a modular transformer substation, a ventilation system, and a heating system have also been installed.
At the moment, work is underway to procure priority airfield special equipment for servicing the airport. A self-propelled passenger staircase, an airfield fire truck, and a fuel tanker have already been purchased.
It is important to note that as part of the implementation of the President's Address, comprehensive work is underway in Kazakhstan to develop aviation infrastructure. This includes a large-scale modernization of the leading airports in Astana, Almaty, Shymkent, and Aktobe to transform them into multimodal hubs. At the same time, new airports are being constructed in key tourist areas (Katon-Karagay, Zaysan, Kendirli), and regional air harbors are being restored.
