Catalin Radu
Director General of the Aviation Administration of Kazakhstan
Catalin Radu is the Director General of the Aviation Administration, appointed in this role in April 2022. He has held a number of executive and managerial positions at National, European and Global level with over 25 years of experience in the aviation environment and international aviation organizations.
At the international level, as Director for seven years of the most important strategic objective of ICAO, Aviation Safety, he was in charge with the standardization and implementation of 16 out of 19 ICAO technical Annexes and having an active role in the current changes of the world aviation sector.
He also served as President of ECAC, Vice President of EUROCONTROL, Vice President of the 37th ICAO Assembly and ECAC’s Focal Point for External Relations and Safety Matters. In his different capacities, he was involved in multiple negotiations with States, International Organizations and Industry, bringing added value for the organizations he served.
Catalin graduated in aeronautical engineering from the Polytechnic University in Bucharest and trained at SUPAERO in Toulouse, specializing in aerospace engineering (MSc). He also holds a degree in International Relations and European Studies with a specialization in Public Administration Management and an executive diploma in Strategic Management from Harvard University.
He began his career in the airworthiness field with the Romanian Civil Aviation Authority, in 2006 becoming Head of the Accident Investigation Unit within the Ministry of Transport and in May 2007, Director General of Romanian Civil Aviation.
He has received several awards, among others the title of “Doctor Honoris Causa” in 2011, “Médaille de l’Aéronautique” in 2013 and “Air Transport Award” in 2018.
