Secretary General of the International Civil Aviation Organization Juan Carlos Salazar highly appreciated the achievements of the aviation authorities of Kazakhstan. We are sharing footage of a short interview with the Secretary General.
Secretary General Juan Carlos Salazar, what is the level of cooperation between Kazakhstan and ICAO?
I think it's the highest possible. Kazakhstan is a valued member of ICAO community. It has been very active in hosting a number of events, regional events, global events that contribute to the work of the organization.
Kazakhstan is very active in the regional level at the Europe and North Atlantic office and experts from Kazakhstan are permanently contributing to the technical work of ICAO and finally we are very happy to welcome Kazakhstan as member of our community in our headquarters here in Montreal recently opening your representation to ICAO, which again reinforces the commitment and the cooperation between Kazakhstan and the International Civil Aviation Organization.
Excellent. How important is to have the permanent mission of Kazakhstan to ICAO?
Well, it will allow Kazakhstan to be permanently in contact with the latest developments and discussions that are taking place in global aviation. And so having a representation here in Montreal will provide Kazakhstan a prime opportunity to interact with other member states, with other leading states in aviation. and also to discuss and contribute in the discussions that are taking place at the Council of ICAO and at the Air Navigation Commission, which are the top governing body and decision-making bodies, technical bodies in this organization.
What achievements of Kazakhstan in the civil aviation sphere during the last decade could ICAO note?
We have seen a very rapid development of Kazakhstan. And Kazakhstan is a poster child of the development of civil aviation in countries and the importance of civil aviation to the development of a country. And so Kazakhstan faced some challenges over a decade ago. There were some gaps in the civil aviation system that were identified with an audit. And from that time, to the level of development, the institutional development that Kazakhstan has achieved is a great evolution, positive evolution that ICAO is very happy to have. And nowadays, Kazakhstan is a leading country, not only in the region, but globally in the development of civil aviation. We were listening from the minister and the chairwoman of the Civil Aviation Commission Committee of Kazakhstan about these developments.
And the rapid growth in traffic that year over year may move you to almost 50% more traffic than you were having pre-pandemic levels, which at the same time creates challenges and opportunities that Kazakhstan is fully embracing.
And very importantly, I just mentioned the chairwomen of the Civil Aviation Committee. Kazakhstan is leading the region in that regard, because for the first time, the country has, and the region has, a person responsible for civil aviation, a civil aviation director, in this case, a women's civil aviation director. And it's showing the way. The minister was also highlighting how Kazakhstan has over 35% of women in the management level positions in the civil aviation sector. So that is a great example that we invite other countries in the region to follow and other countries globally even to follow. Thank you so much. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you very much.
Thank you. Appreciate it.
