SCAT aircraft recent incident is under investigation

Based on preliminary data on November 10, 2020, at 22:00 Atyrau time, the flight DV-766 from Atyrau to Nur-Sultan on a Boeing 737 aircraft of SCAT airlines, the left engine was damaged at the take-off, due to bird hits. The aircraft returned to the departure airport. The landing took place in normal mode, there were no injuries. Inspectors of Aviation Administration of Kazakhstan are at Atyrau airport to clarify the circumstances of the aviation event together with the technical staff of SCAT airlines.

Atyrau International Airport performs wild life management for the flights at Atyrau airport, has qualified specialists in wildlife management for aviation purposes, that take measures to scare off the birds, as well as control the conditions that may attract birds to the aerodrome territory.

Aviation Administration of Kazakhstan provides supervision over the implementation by the airfield operator of the necessary measures for ornithological support of flights and their effectiveness. The main objective of the measures taken is to reduce the attractiveness of the airport and its surrounding area for birds.

Aviation Administration, together with the aviation industry, is actively working to reduce the incidence of aircraft collisions with birds at airports in the Republic of Kazakhstan by searching for and applying the most effective measures for ornithological support of flights. To this end, in September 2020, the aviation administration established a coordination Council for the prevention of aircraft collisions with birds, which included specialists from major airports in Kazakhstan, airlines and organizations specializing in aviation ornithology.

In accordance with the aviation legislation of the Republic of Kazakhstan, this event will be investigated to define the causes and associated circumstances.
