ICAO notes the particular importance of improving the search and rescue flight support system (SAR) in accordance with the standards of Annex 12 "Search and Rescue" to the Convention on International Civil Aviation and a number of other annexes, especially following the results of the investigation of aviation accidents such as the crash of Air France Flight 447 (AF447) in 2009, as well as the accident with Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 in 2014. As a result, the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) has developed a number of standards and supporting documentation aimed at improving the efficiency of search and rescue operations, such as improving state oversight, equipping aircraft with flight tracking systems and emergency beacons, and increasing interstate and regional cooperation in the field of SAR. Representatives from European countries and international organisations such as ICAO, EUROCONTROL, and COSPAS-SARSAT attended a meeting of the Special Task Force on Search and Rescue Support of Flights of the European/North Atlantic Bureau of ICAO. Oleg Avdeev, Director of the Air Navigation Department, and Kuanysh Egizbayev, Senior Aviation Inspector of the Airworthiness Department, represented JSC Aviation Administration of Kazakhstan at the meeting. Experts discussed various aspects of new ICAO initiatives in this area, as well as demonstrated successful regional cooperation and SAR exercises on the example of several countries. More detailed information will be provided to the AAК during specialised industry meetings in Kazakhstan with interested civil aviation organisations.
