In the spring this year, QAZAQ AIR was successfully certified by the Aviation Administration of Kazakhstan for the maintenance and repair of the operated aircraft type the De Havilland Dash-8 400 model.

The preparation work to start maintenance by Qazaq Air is complete and performed by the operator’s personnel.

Peter Griffiths, AAK Director General, notes: This is the first step to repatriation of all commercial aircraft operating for Kazakhstan. It will take about five years to finalize the process. Qazaq have completed re-registration, and shortly we start on the Air Astana fleet which will go through a two step process, initially moving to Ireland, and, as expected from 2024 onwards, new aircraft will be registered in Kazakhstan.

After the certification was complete, QAZAQ AIR proceeded to re-register their fleet in the Kazakhstan Aircraft Register. The state registration number of an aircraft is an identification number assigned to an aircraft upon completion of the procedure for entering it into the aviation register of a State. The entire air fleet of QAZAQ AIR today has an updated aviation registration prefix – UP (Civil Aviation of Kazakhstan).

Thanks to the well-coordinated joint work of the Aviation Administration of Kazakhstan and the QAZAQ AIR team, the aircrafts were re-registered with virtually no suspension of their operation. Thus, the impact on the current flight schedule was minimal.

On average, each aircraft was taken off schedule for up to three days. During this period, QAZAQ AIR engineers carried out work on re-registration of radio beacon equipment and updated State identification marks. Inspectors of oversight State bodies carried out a full audit in advance, as well as a technical inspection of the aircraft with the issuance of an airworthiness certificate.

“Since August 1, all QAZAQ AIR aircrafts were registered in Kazakhstan and are being serviced by their own certified service station. The airline’s independence in aircraft maintenance under the control of Kazakhstan’s regulatory authorities will allow the development of the local engineering staff with a long-term perspective. QAZAQ AIR will continue its internal localization to ensure an effective development and provision of affordable air travel for our passengers” – the Board Chairman of QAZAQ AIR JSC Plamen Atanasov.
