Press release regarding the briefing on flight delays

June 30, 2022 the Central Communications Service held a briefing on "Passenger railway and air transportation: delays, prices and quality of service". The event was attended by representatives of the Ministry of Industry and Infrastructure Development of the Republic of Kazakhstan, as well as major Kazakh airlines that conduct regular flights.


At the briefing, the participants provided the summary, as well as answered to about the current passengers concerns. The Deputy Chairman of the Civil Aviation Committee of the Ministry of Industry and Infrastructure Development of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Saltanat Tompieva, emphasized that the main priority in civil aviation is the safety of passengers, therefore the airlines have a priority of safe and timely flights to the destination, this includes avoiding additional costs incurred due to delays. In this connection, delays can occur for many reasons: aircraft technical malfunction, difficult weather conditions, etc. For this reason, flight delays are often an unavoidable issue in air transportation.


In case of flight delay due to the airline, in accordance with the current legislation applicable for various duration of the delays, the air carrier free of charge provides two phone calls, soft drinks, hot meals, hotel accommodation, as well as transfer to the hotel and back to the airport. In addition, for each hour of delay, the air carrier pays a fine of 3% the ticket price.


In case of an air operator fails to follow the rules,  the fine from 200 to 1000 MCI shall be paid.  Also, in order to protect the passengers rights, introducing administrative liability for non-payment of a fine is now being considered.


Representatives of Kazakh airlines during their speech reported on the ongoing work to ensure the safe and timely air travels.
