07/04/2020

Throughout the world and in Kazakhstan, the civil aviation industry is one of the most affected areas from the coronavirus pandemic (COVID-19). Currently, based on international experience, various measures to support aviators are being considered.

However, despite the difficult situation of the civil aviation industry around the world and, in particular, in Kazakhstan, the processes that were started before the coronavirus pandemic continue.

Thus, according to a special notification of the International Air Transport Association (IATA) dated April 6, 2020, the final official decision was made to change the current three-letter code of the international airport Nursultan Nazarbayev TSE to NQZ.

It should be noted that the Ministry has done a lot of work with IATA management and experts to change IATA approaches to regulating and changing three-letter airport codes around the world. Thanks to the work performed by Kazakhstan, all countries of the world have a unique opportunity to make changes to the three-letter codes of their airports, which were previously difficult to change. At the same time, our country has worked out the issue of civil aviation representatives ‘ support for their own initiative to amend the IATA Resolution on regulating issues of assigning and changing three-letter airport codes around the world.

This change will be officially valid from June 8, 2020 and all flight booking systems, including tickets, baggage tags, information boards, will use the new airport code NQZ.
