Kazakhstan embraces the regional approach on aviation environment together with ICAO and EACAC

Samarkand, Uzbekistan, September 10-12, 2024 - A delegation from the Civil Aviation Committee of the Ministry of Transport of the Republic of Kazakhstan (CAC), "Aviation Administration of Kazakhstan" JSC (AAK) actively participated in the 2024 ICAO EUR/NAT Regional Seminar on Environment, hosted by the Ministry of Transport of the Republic of Uzbekistan in the historic city of Samarkand.

The Kazakhstan delegation led by Mr. Catalin Radu General Director AAK, included officials from the CAC Mrs.Makhabbat Kuptleuova Head of air transportation department, and from AAK Mr. Amir Akhmetov Senior Adviser, Mrs. Zhanna Shek Senior Director of the Sustainability and Stakeholders Management Department, Ms. Aitaliyeva Aliya Head of International Relations Division and Mr. Fedor Folomeyev Head of Sustainability Division actively participated in the 2024 ICAO EUR/NAT Regional Seminar on Environment, hosted by the Ministry of Transport of the Republic of Uzbekistan in the historic city of Samarkand.

This seminar, a key regional event, gathered aviation leaders to discuss critical environmental issues and the future of sustainable aviation. During the event, Mr. Catalin Radu held strategic meetings with Mr. Takhir Nazarov, Director of the Civil Aviation Agency of Uzbekistan, where they explored opportunities for deeper cooperation within the Eurasian Civil Aviation Conference (EACAC). This collaborative platform aims to enhance the global standing of both countries’ aviation authorities and facilitates prompt resolution of shared industry challenges.

Mr. Radu also met with Ms. Jane Hupe, Deputy Director of Environment at ICAO and Mr. Manuel Caballero Alarcon Environmental Officer at ICAO, Ms. Blandine Ferrier Regional Officer Environmental Protection at ICAO WACAF Office to discuss Kazakhstan's regional initiatives, particularly focusing on ICAO training programs within the EACAC framework. These initiatives underscore Kazakhstan's commitment to sustainable aviation development in the region.

The seminar built on the 2022 ICAO Assembly's historic agreement to achieve net-zero carbon emissions in aviation by 2050. Key discussions centered around sustainable fuels, the importance of international cooperation, and the need for inclusive transitions towards cleaner aviation energy solutions.

The AAK delegation emphasized the importance of such international platforms for driving forward sustainable policies and strengthening regional cooperation to meet global environmental targets.
