On October 19, 2022, while passing through the inspection procedure in the international flight departure hall, a passenger T.M. A portable charger (Power bank) caught fire on Air Astana flight KS 109, which was flying from Almaty to Bishkek.
To inform passengers about the rules for carrying chargers, the Department of Facilitation, Aviation Administration of Kazakhstan JSC strongly advises passengers to follow the airline's rules and, if necessary, consult with, as well as notify airline and airport employees about the availability of chargers during the registration procedure.
Spare batteries, including power supplies (so-called Power banks), must be carried in hand luggage and individually protected to prevent short circuits by placing in the original retail packaging or otherwise isolating the terminals, such as by sealing the open terminals with tape or by placing each battery in a separate plastic bag or protective case, according to the ICAO Technical Instructions for the Safe Transport of Dangerous Goods by Air Doc 9284.
If lithium batteries are transported as cargo (in or with equipment), they must be properly declared, labeled, and packed in accordance with the current version of the ICAO Technical Instructions.
